The Shirley House in Historic Downtown Northport
will be one of the places on Tour. It was built in 1878 in the
Federal Greek Revival style.
The next convention will be in Tuscaloosa on April 5, 6, 7th in 2010 at the North River Yacht Club. You will think you are in Gatlinburg with all the trees and the bridge across the ravine between the Lodge and the beautiful Westervelt-Warner Museum which holds one of the finest private collections. From the deck of the NRYC or the Lodge you will be amazed at the solitude and view. The restaurant serves superb food with elegance. You may think you are at a spa and want to schedule a massage. Tennis and golf are also available.
The first night, on Monday, April 5th, we will go for a catered dinner cruise down the Warrior River on the Bama Belle, a paddle wheeler. Reservations are limited so you must sign up early for this special treat. Be sure and take in the view from the upper deck. Dinner will be served on the main level which also has full views. Dress will be casual. The cruise cost will be included with your dinner price.
The next day, Tuesday, April 6th we will have free continental breakfast at the Lodge and early morning meetings, in the famous Apothecary Room and on the deck. A free shuttle bus takes us to the NRYC for the GCA Board Meeting followed by a fabulous lunch in the Grand Salon. That afternoon after meetings we take the shuttle or walk the bridge from the Lodge to the Art Museum tour which is included with the cost of your Lodge room. More meetings follow a scrumptious dinner in the Grand Salon that evening.
After another free continental breakfast , day two, Wednesday, April 7th, begins with a walking tour of historic downtown Northport which has unique shops, homes art studios and includes a working antique hardware store. The husbands may want to stay in Northport for a wonderful lunch at the renowned City Cafe.
After lunch and meetings in the Grand Salon, we break for a tour of the home and cliff side gardens of Dr. Jack Warner, which is once again included in your room rate. After a short break we return to the deck and bar at NRYC for a reception honoring our GCA President, Ann Daniels and our Deep South Director Mary Sue Colvin.
There will be fabulous floral designs and wonderful speakers to be announced later along with outstanding exhibits and vendors. More information later.
Keep checking our web site so that you can be one of the lucky ones able to secure a room or suite at the Lodge and reservations for the great dinner cruise.
