Wollaston Garden Club
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you always wanted to know
about the Wollaston Garden Club…look here.

How many members do you have?
Although the club had about 90 members in the beginning of 2007, the number frequently changes as new members join our ranks.  Our members live not only in Quincy and Wollaston, but in surrounding communities throughout the South Shore.

How often do you meet?
The club meets monthly during the period of September through May, on the third Thursday of each month.  We supplement these meetings with various activities that support club initiatives relating to fundraising and civic beautification, such as field trips, nursery visits, garden tours and “in the garden” workshops.

Where do you meet?
The Wollaston Congregational Church at 48 Winthrop Avenue in Wollaston has been the club’s home for many years.

Are meetings held during the day or evenings?
Both.  Monthly meetings alternate between days and evenings.  Our day meetings begin at 11:45 with a light luncheon.  Our evening meetings begin at 6:45 p.m. and include light refreshments as well.  For both, we begin with a general business meeting and treasurer’s report, followed by a horticulture topic and a featured speaker who may be from within the club or outside.  Speakers address a variety of topics of interest to the club members.

What are the fees?
Our annual membership fee is $20 for active members.  Active and Life Members may also subscribe to the Mayflower, the official publication of the Garden Club Federation for an additional $8.  Membership dues and Mayflower subscription fees are collected at the March and April meetings for the upcoming garden season.

Can you tell me more about the Mayflower?
The Mayflower is published 5 times a year and provides information on national and state meetings, grants and programs, as well as information on indigenous plants, trees and butterflies of Ma.  It also provides ideas for potential events, programs and speakers, and offers opportunities for intensive study and certificate at reduced rates.

Can I become a member?
Yes.  We ask that you attend a meeting and fill out a new membership application either at the meeting or by printing the form which you can find at this site under Contact Us, and bringing it to a meeting with your check.

Are there any other requirements?
Members are asked to participate in at least two committees or activities if physically able.

What committees are available to join?
The following committees are looking for new members:
Holiday Greens Sale - planning and scheduling the sale, attending workshops to prepare items for sale, and working at the sale itself in December.  Contact Jo Costello

Who are your members?
The Wollaston Garden Club reflects the population of the city of Quincy.  Ages vary widely, and due to the popularity of the evening programs, occupations range from full time workers to students to retirees.

Where can I find information about the club?
Print articles announcing upcoming meetings, projects, etc may be found in the Patriot Ledger and the Quincy Sun.  Each member receives an annual handbook, which also lists all planned meetings and activities, and which should be referred to as well.  Any changes or new additions will also be announced at the meetings themselves, and we will try to insure that they appear on the website itself.
