WGC Holds another Successful Plant Sale For the second year in a row, the skies were cloudy and overcast on the morning of the annual plant sale. When members began arriving at 7:30 to set up tables and arrange plants, the showers came, but let up right around 10 a.m. at the start of the sale. This year, we had numerous plants from as far away as New Hampshire, and many members donated from their gardens. Cynthia Lewis, committee chair for the sale, and Carol Fischer each donated by far the greatest numbers, followed by Claire Currier, who opened up her garden so that the group could dig about 300 day lilies for the sale. Many other members donated both indoor and outdoor plants, which enabled us to keep expenses low and achieve maximum profitability. This was one of the most successful sales ever, and we thank everyone who participated, whether by donating, setting up and breaking down the tables, assisting with customers, and buying plants themselves. Some notable plants this year were Huechera, Solomon’s Seal, Peonies, Grasses, Bouncing Betty, Sedum, Jack in the Pulpit, Blue Flag Irises, Hydrangeas, Spider plants, Cactus, Lilies of the Valley, some Lilac bushes, Ferns, Lamium, Ground Covers, and of course, Day Lilies, and many others too numerous to mention. A few pictures follow, showing the crowd lined up to make their purchases. Another new feature this year was the raffling off of a beautiful outdoor container of plants put together by Ruth Griffin, with a container donated by MaryLynn Sullivan. The raffle was a big success, and included is a photo of the creators, Ruth and MaryLynn, with Tom Costello, who helps us every year with the heavy work.
Thanks to all who participated.
