Yes, there will be a Camp Wildwood 2010!

I’m sure you have heard by now of the  cut in funds from DNR for Camp Wildwood.  Due to their huge reduction in monetary funds and/or manpower, the remaining partners, SCWF, SCDHEC, SCPRT, Harry Hampton Wildlife Fund and GCSC will unite to see that needs are met to continue this life-changing camp experience for South Carolina youth.  We are fortunate that Steve Bates, our experienced Director, will be able to continue.

What can you do to help?

1.     Consider an additional donation to Camp Wildwood this year (to GCSC).  The shortfall creates need for extra funds in various areas.

2.     Make Officials aware of the importance of Camp Wildwood and the necessity of providing funds for this educational opportunity!  Write your Senators and House Representatives.  Send copies to the Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate and to Senator Yancey McGill, a Camp Wildwood Alumnus.  The House will not reconvene until January 2010, so letters should be sent to their homes.  You will find the addresses of legislators on the website, http://www.scstatehouse.gov  On the left side of the page, under Legislative Resources, you will see Find Your Legislator.  When you “click” on that, it will take you to a page that locates your representatives, using your zip code.  After you write your letter, please make 5 copies.  The other addresses that you will need are listed below:

Speaker of the House       President Pro Tempore       Senator   J. Yancey McGill

Robert W. Harrell, Jr.      Glenn F. McConnell             601 Longstreet St.
8316 Rivers Ave.         27 Bainbridge Dr.                Kingstree, SC  29556

Charleston, SC 29406       Charleston, SC  29407

Let us continue our efforts to allow Camp Wildwood the opportunity to work its magic on future campers and to promote the natural beauty of South Carolina.
