We hope that your Club is planning to have a flower show in the near future and that you will plan to apply for a National Garden Clubs Flower Show Achievement Award. Only Standard Flower Shows are eligible to apply for NGC Flower Show Achievement Awards. These national-level awards honor NGC member groups sponsoring a superior Standard Flower Show during the year. To apply,
· Carefully read pages 1- 14 in the 2007 Handbook for Flower Shows, which lists criteria for a Standard Flower Show.
· Clubs must provide substantially early notification to the State Flower Show Awards Chairmen of the club’s intention to apply for an award, allowing time to approve and/or edit schedules and select the evaluating judges. (Handbook for Flower Shows, 55 - 56)
· Don't forget the Special Exhibits Division, which is a requirement for a NGC Award.
· Study each award’s description to determine which award you will apply for and to understand its particular requirements (Handbook for Flower Shows, 65 - 70).
Send a copy of your schedule’s rough draft for editing and approval to: Sarah Floyd, 1417 Meador Rd., Chester, SC 29706
· After you receive the approved schedule and you have put it in printed form, return the schedule to the same chairman, Sarah Floyd, a minimum of 60 days before the show.
· Your list of judges should be sent to Susan Hite, 2625 Colecreek Lane, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Include the status of each judge: Student, Accredited, Life or Master. Upon receipt of your list, an evaluating panel will be selected. On the day of the show, this evaluating panel will inform the chairman of the results. If the show scored 95 or above, the chairman will be advised to assemble a Book of Evidence to submit for consideration
· The Book of Evidence is sent to Sarah Floyd (address stated above) before December 15th.
· It is a good idea to send your Book of Evidence as early as possible, because of the importance of ample time to correct any errors.
· The Handbook for Flower Shows , pages 61 - 63, states the requirements for your Book of Evidence.
· If you have additional questions or need any other information, please contact us.
On the state level, the Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc., offers an award to the Small Club (twenty-five or fewer members) sponsoring a superior Small Standard Flower Show. Whether you apply for a national or a state award, we look forward to answering your questions and offering help as you go through the process.
