Club Activities Reports
  • The Payette Valley Gardeners was founded in 1954 and was incorporated March 15, 2002. Our purposes are to: stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, aid in the protection of native plants and birds and to encourage civic projects.

The Club’s past activities include:

  • Created a wayside park at Fort Wilson
  • Planting wildflowers along the highway
  • Assisted with a seminar on certification of arborists
  • Planting and maintaining at the Memorial Rose Garden
  • Raising funds for, and building a gazebo in Central park in Payette
  • Planting and maintaining several flower beds for the city of Payette
  • Planting and maintaining a flower bed for the Payette City Library
  • Raising funds for, and installing benches in Central Park in Payette
  • Donating and planting trees for Arbor Day (as a children’s group activity)
  • Donating plants and planting them at the Payette County Historical Society

At present:

  • We continue to maintain the Rose Garden in Central park. We weed, fertilize, prune and deadhead as required
  • We are still committed to landscaping the Museum grounds
  • We add annuals to the city flower beds as needed
  • We added a new addition of forty roses to the Memorial Rose Garden
  • We donated plants and planted a butterfly garden adjacent to the Payette City Library
  • We participated in the application of a grant for a greenhouse for McCain middle school

In the future:

  • Our first priority will be the Memorial Rose Garden
  • We plan to add more benches to Central Park
  • Work with McCain middle school to acquire a greenhouse
  • We would like to work with the gardening classes at McCain middle school
  • Work with young people in our community to create an interest in gardening
  • Work with any civic beautification project that is within our capabilities
  • Presenting programs to encourage gardening, appreciation of the native plants and birds in our community
  • Raise funds to establish an endowment fund to maintain the Rose Garden in perpetuity
      •
