SCGC DECORATE DANA THOMAS DINING ROOM FOR CHRISTMAS These photos (flash not allowed) show the beautiful dining room Christmas designs SCGC members helped to make using natural materials such as hydrangea, cockscomb, money plant, evergreen, pine cones, pods and seed heads to reflect the naturalism of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural design. David R., Karen G., Ada Lynn S. and Anita W. spent several hours arranging the designs. The home was open to the public for the Christmas tours.

| Workshop #1 begins - Barbara R., David R, Anita W. and Helen A. are enhancing the fall foliage donated by SCGC members with spray paint. The painters were also "enhanced" with the paint as it was windy!! | | At the same time Kay T., Pat F., Karen G., Bea W-W., Ada Lynn S and Carol G. were working inside. The wired pine cones from the November meeting certainly sped up the process. Thank you members! |
NOVEMBER MEETING - HOW TO WIRE PINECONES Participation...100% President Park and Ada Lynn instructed the members at the November meeting how to wire pine cones. Not only did the members learn, but they also supplied the pine cones. The wired pine cones will be part of the decorations SCGC will be designing for the dining room of the historical Dana Thomas Home in Springfield during the Christmas season.
LINCOLN MEMORIAL GARDEN'S FALL FESTIVAL It was a beautiful day for a Festival. There was music and activities both for children and adults. Best of all there was the SCGC cookie and goody tent. We have the best bakers in town.
| |
| This is just one shift of the Saturday PM workers. We find that year after year SCGC workers seem to stay way past their shift.
| | Could anyone resist Maggie P-B and Denice N.'s trayful of goodies? Well...they couldn't and that is why SCGC sold $1,287 worth of those goodies - a new record, even though attendance at the Festival was 60% of usual. Of course, all monies go to Lincoln Memorial Garden. |
JULY MEETING EQUALS TWO GARDEN TOURS We were lucky enough to have two Garden Walks in place of our July meeting. Monday's walk was in Springfield and Tuesday's walk was in White Hall which also allowed for lunch and tour of the the Green Gables Inn. The Garden Walks included The Lincoln Home Neighborhood Heirloom Garden, behind the Harriet Dean House, the Governor's Mansion garden as well as Washington Park Botanical Garden. Also featured were several member's gardens including Joan W., Dennis & Christine R-C., Graham & Ednita M., Jack G's. family gardens, Ken & Carolyn L., JoAnn S., Ella D. and John & Billye G.. What a treat! Thank you all!
New Member Coffee June 12, 2009 was a beautiful, sunny day - just right for our New Member Coffee at Susan D's gorgeous home. Seventeen new members and several SCGC board members were treated to goodies for the eyes -Susan's beautiful garden, and stomach - refreshments, cookies brought by board members and Susan's specialities. Past President Charles Bell gave a presentation of the history and opportunities for participation in SCGC. Questions were asked and answered of the gardens as well as our club. In short, a good time was had by all and our club has been enhanced by our new members.

Much information is packed into these two hour sessions.

| One of SCGC's annual projects is baking and selling goodies at the SCGC Country Cupboard as our donation to the Lincoln Memorial Gardens Indian Summer Festival held on October 11-12. A new money making record was made and a good time had by all. Co-chairs Denise N. and Betty H. did a superb job! | | Sharon M. presented a pressed flower workshop on 10-15 at Washington Botanical Gardens. Bus Trip ---- Missouri Botanical Gardens Does anyone ever get tired of seeing beautiful gardens, objects d'art, buying plants and eating good food with like minded people? The question was answered with a resounding NO! on our bus trip, (filled to the brim) May 29 to Missouri Botanical Gardens, eating among the gorgeous plants, shopping at Gringo John's and the Bug Store as well as Bowood Nursery in St. Louis. Forty whimsical, monumental mosaic sculptures made in a rainbow of colors and materials from fiberglass, stones, glass and mirrors throughout the garden - a collection by NIKI de Saint Phalle, (1930-2002). There were also 4 pieces of the Chihuly collection from 2006 purchased by the Garden. Enjoy just a few pictures of our group enjoying the collections, the iris, theJapanese gardens and the end of the day. (Click on photos to enlarge)

Arbor Day 2008 A picture perfect day at Washington Park Botanical Garden was the setting for SCGC's Arbor Day. Senator Larry Bomke and Representative Raymond Poe spoke to the children, club members and guests. Extension Horticulturist David Robson had a question and answer period for the children and then gave a demonstration on 'how to correctly plant a tree.' The children read poems and presented SCGC with pictures and poems. The 2nd and 3rd grade students lined up to help plant a Red Jewel Crabapple tree. (Click on photos to enlarge)
New Member Coffee Karen G.'s hosted some very special gardeners - a few of SCGC's new members. We get the nicest people. All left with a full tummy, new gardening ideas, new friends and knowledge of the many committees and activities of our club. (Click on photo to enlarge)

SCGC Bakes and Serves Goodies for Lincoln Memorial Gardens Fall Festival Another year, another successful SCGC bake sale at LMG's Fall Festival, October 13-14. Carol N. inspired her co-chairs Rose H., Karen W. and LaVerda W. to corrall the SCGC member's baked goodies. We are privileged to assist LMG's endeavors as the Garden Clubs of Illinois, and particularly the Springfield Civic Garden Club, helped found the Garden in the 1930s. (Click on photo to enlarge)
Container Workshop Club members had fun with the container workshop at GreenView Nursery. Betsy P. directed the group. (She is the recipient of this year's scholarship - congratulations Betsy!) Proud Pat says she is bringing her container to the next SCGC meeting. Both she and the container are looking good. (Click on photos to enlarge)

Garden Walk June Meeting equals Garden Walk. What a super day June 4th, 2007 was for a garden walk. We met at the Church, picked up our maps and carpooled to six gorgeous gardens. We thank all of these gardeners for sharing their gardens and expertise with us. With the ideas obtained many more gardens will come to fruition. (Click on photos to enlarge)

| This is Linda M.'s healing garden. She was our speaker for SCGC's February program "Gardening for the Soul". She mentioned her garden in her talk and graciously consented to show her garden at this month's garden walk. Her handout explaining the garden was an additional benefit. | | This photo is of Brenda P.'s garden with a wonderful water feature. Brenda is also a Master Gardener and her garden shows that she knows her stuff. | These two photos are of Dick/Helen A.'s beautiful, serene Japanese inspired garden. Whether it is in the ground or part of his bonsai collection he strives for authenticity.

| Bea W.'s garden shows where she gathers her specimens to complete her beautiful award winning flower arrangements. | | Pat/Brett M.'s garden is a fairly new garden and shows great promise. The separation from the corn fields changes the view point entirely. |
The last three photos are of Linda K.'s large lakeside garden. This too is a recent garden, (check Linda's blisters), and contains many different views.
