SCGC celebrates by buying and planting at least one tree, in the Rotary Park Grove. City officials, scouts and elementary students participate. The public is invited.
Community Planting
SCGC assists Downtown Springfield, Inc. in the beautification of Springfield through planting at various sites including the Old State Capitol, Lincoln Library and at the Muni Opera entrance.
Community Service Designs
Club members provide floral designs on request for special public, state and civic events. This year designs were made for the dedication of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. Ten flower arrangements were placed in public buildings around Springfield for National Garden Week.
Environmental Awareness
Environmental topics are discussed at our SCGC meetings. Earth Day is celebrated each year with members manning a booth with information for the public and crafts for the children.
Elijah Iles Historical House
This house, the home of one of the founders of Springfield, IL. was moved and is in the restoration process. SCGC has donated money and members have begun landscaping.

Lincoln Memorial Garden
Numerous SCGC members volunteer and work at the Garden throughout the year. Special consideration and support are given as the need arises. Each year SCGC members bake and man the Country Cupboard at the "Indian Summer Festival and Bake Sale" October 14-15. Profits from this sale are donated to LMG.
Plant Sale
All members are encouraged to share their house and garden plants with an enthusiastic public for our annual fundraising project. Profits support Club projects.
Yard to Yard Challange
Private or business gardens begun in the spring and completed in the same year with before and after photos enter this competition. Club members have participated for two years in the judging of this project sponsored by the Illinois Times, a weekly publication.
