Mt Airy Clay Breakers Garden Club is so proud of its member, Gilda Allen, being chosen, along with five others in the DC region, for Washingtonian Magazine's Annual Green Award. She created the Anacostia River Environmental Fair in Anacostia Park to coincide with Earth Day in 1997 and its been celebrated ever since on the first Friday in May. She worked with 30 schools in setting up good conservation practices: things like rain gardens, and native plant sites. She's always sharing good information with her club, and presently serves as club vice president and program chair. The Clay Breaker's are so happy that Gilda was recognized for her efforts and enthusiasm in helping DC youth get excited about the environment.
