one-day conference--

‘Ready, Set, GROW’

Master Gardeners of Montgomery County plan to teach other home gardeners practical and green gardening techniques at the 10th Annual Mini-Conference, “Ready, Set, Grow,” Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, 8:30 am-2:45 pm.

Participants can chose to attend three workshops out of nine options taught by Master Gardeners, as well as two “lunch-and-learn” sessions. Topics include planting vegetables, creating fou rseason colorful garden beds, pruning demonstrations, attracting birds and butterflies, and planning maintenance activities.

The event will be held at the University of Maryland Extension, 18410 Muncaster Rd, Derwood, MD. Master Gardeners—a non-profit organization of volunteers trained through the University of Maryland—provides free and unbiased advice to encourage environmentally friendly gardening.

Advance registration is $45 and includes a box lunch; bring a friend and the cost is $80 for two.

The registration deadline is February 10, 2010. Class size is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are about 300 active members of the Master Gardeners organization in Montgomery county and each volunteers about 75 hours annually. The non-profit program falls under the auspices of Montgomery County government and the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. University of Maryland Extension programs are open to all regardless of race, color, religion, age, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, or disability.
