 Great Meadows Garden Club

Farmington, PA

The Great Meadows Garden Club was organized in 1957, and federated in 1958.

Our name comes from the site of the opening battle of the French and Indian War
which George Washington named "Great Meadows".

We meet along The National Road, known as the "Gateway to the West".

We feel the responsibility to beautify the areas along our country's first highway
connecting the eastern cities to the Ohio River valley.

Our early American sisters brought recipes and snips of plants and flowers
whenever they gave up the comfort of their homes to travel The National Road
in hopes of finding new hope and opportunity.

Even today, as we travel the highway, we can see hints of early homesteads.
A few pine trees, a lilac bush or two, a clump of daffodils may be the only hints
of days gone by.  After more than a century, the exchange of recipes and the joy
of sharing plants and garden flowers still flourishes along The National Road.

Enjoy the journey.
