Chairman, Nancy Voyles
(see secured area for contact info)

"Beautify Blight" is the term given to NGC President Renee Blaschke's Project.  It is designed to encourage individual Garden Clubs, Districts, and Regions to partner with community leaders or government agencies AND one or more organized youth groups (Scouts, Campfire, School, Church, FFA, FHA, etc.) to collectively identify a blighted or unsightly area within their community and develop it into a community garden area to provide fresh produce with nutritional value to food pantry's, soup kitchens, and/or homeless or those in need.  The project aims to bring awareness to community leaders and residents the commitment of National Garden Clubs to our fellow man.  With the involvement of youth groups it will help them become aware of the importance of community service.

"Beautify Blight" has received a monetary contribution for Awards to be given to the individual Regions.  Award money wil be divided between two categories.

CATEGORY 1.  Will involve preparing a Book of Evidence with before and after photos and a one or two page description of the project and those involved, showing the development of the project through the two years.  Deadline will be Jan. 29, 2011.

CATEGORY 2. Existing "Community Vegetable Gardens" that has been in place for a MINIMUM of the last three years.  The Book of Evidence will need photos of the progress and two page description of how, when, where, who is involved and purpose of initiating garden.  Deadline is Jan. 10, 2010.

Send Book of Evidence to SCR "Beautify Blilght" Chairman Nancy Voyles.  See secured area for contact info.  Pay close attention to deadlines.
