“The Challenge of Poisoned Waters”
A CONSERVATION EDUCATION PROGRAM
TFGC has received 10 free copies of POISONED WATERS Learning Kits for use by its members.
Produced by Hedrick Smith Productions and PBS, the kits are based on a two-hour documentary aired on April 29, 2009, on FRONTLINE/PBS.
The documentary explores the Chesapeake Watershed in the East and the Puget Sound in the West to examine the "Challenge of Poisoned Waters" - the causes and consequences of the contamination in our waterways as well as examples of local solutions to those problems.
Especially designed for educational organizations and titled POISONED WATERS Discussion Guide, each kit contains a DVD with excerpts of the documentary and a guide for teachers/discussion leaders.
The DVD is divided into ten 5 minutes segments, each titled in question form to encourage discussion; it may be used in parts at club meetings or in its entirety in large events.
The discussion leaders’ guide follows the same format with a summary of each segment, followed by four discussion questions pertaining to that segment.
Each District now has copies of “The Challenge of Poisoned Waters”.
