2010 TFGC Convention Information
The 2010 TFGC Convention is picking up speed chugging “On the Green Track” toward the Chattanooga Choo Choo, arriving on Monday, April 19th, 2010. Join us as we spot signals along the tracks. They have prompted the following themes:
A red light is the inspiration for the Monday Design Luncheon. National Flower Show School Instructor, Trece Chancellor will present a program called “Stop Doing That”. She will demonstrate how to correct common design mistakes. Watch as she makes designs go from bad to beautiful.
Green light; “Go Vintage”. The Monday night informal banquet is called the Presidents’ Dinner. It will be a “green” affair and for the program, former TFGC Presidents Mary Pennington, Juanita Allinder and Ruth Lamb will guide us on a trip down memory lane for a glimpse at garden clubs of the 1950’s and 1960’s. Also taking place is the Club Presidents’ Parade with club presidents encouraged to wear something green and vintage. (Our definition of vintage is anything more than 50 years old but less than 100, could this be most of us??!!)
On Tuesday, Pat Mitchell, “Auntie Litter”, nationally known for her rousing conservation, litter awareness, recycling and beautification message, will make an appearance in our “yellow” themed “Caution: No Litter Zone” luncheon. You can’t help but be entertained by her songs and stories and inspired by this energetic green educator. (For more information check out her website at:www.AuntieLitter.org).
A VIP reception before the (blue themed, for all those winning ribbons) formal Awards Banquet will honor Alice Overton, our State President and our special convention guest Deep South Director, Mary Sue Colvin. Mary Sue will also be our speaker before the awards are presented.
Early convention arrivals can plan to “make tracks” to the Conductors’ suite for a “pick up supper” April 18th, Sunday evening. Workshops include a hands-on mini plaque making session and a short walking tour, guided by the Choo Choo horticulturist, of the gardens that were planted where some of the original railroad tracks were removed. (You can’t get much more “green track” than
that!)
The Volunteer Gardener will have information and a reservation form where you will find a choice of entrees for the evening meals or you may download from the TFGC website (www.gardencentral.org/tenngardenclubs). My co-chairman Pat Best and I, along with all of our committee members, look forward to seeing you come down the “Green Track” to the Choo Choo this April.
