In celebration of National Garden Club Week, Tuckaleechee Garden Club members and master gardeners, Barbara Spence and Elaine Russell attended the 2007 Tennessee Master Gardener Conference, hosted by the Northeast Tennessee Master Gardeners Association June 8-10 in Kingsport, TN.
The conference theme was "Growing A New Tomorrow" and offered opportunities for learning, sharing and "cultivating" new friendships through numerous break-out sessions led by accomplished gardeners and experts in their field.
A Gardener's Market and organized field trips to the Gray Fossil Site, the Healing Gardens at Johnson City Medical Center and private gardens of the City of Jonesborough added to the enjoyment and learning experiences of the conference.
Keynote speakers were Erica Glasener of HGTV's A Gardener's Diary and Roger Swain of HGTV's People, Places and Plants, Horticulture Magazine and PBS's The Victory Garden. Barbara and Elaine were fortunate to be seated with Mr. Swain and his wife for breakfast Saturday morning. The couple proved to be as enlightening and entertaining in person as in front of a TV camera.
