LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the inaugural issue of WAFA NewsLeaf. This quarterly newsletter will focus on the extraordinary events that the World Association of Flower Arrangers (WAFA) USA is planning for the next three years, beginning with the tri-city, multi-state Excursion Botanicus Seminar and Tour in 2009 and culminating with the spectacular 10th World Flower Show in 2011.

These exceptional undertakings form the focal point of activities planned in the United States as WAFA USA welcomes the World Association of Flower Arrangers to our beautiful country. In celebrating the stunning artistry of the world’s leading floral arrangers, these events also support the other aspects of WAFA’s mission – education, promotion of the care and conservation of natural resources and the environment, and, perhaps most important in these times, facilitation of cross-cultural exchanges among ordinary citizens. Speaking through the universal language of flowers, these events provide a unique opportunity for us to foster a better earth through floral art.

My colleagues at WAFA USA and I are deeply honored to serve as the host organization for our friends and fellow designers from around the world. This marks the first time that the United States will have the opportunity to welcome the WAFA member countries and delegates to our shores.

Our Management Committee and many other dedicated volunteers are already hard at work, tackling the many details that are critical to ensuring the success of our mission. Heartfelt thanks go to each of you. Your tireless efforts are the foundation of WAFA USA.

While 2009 seems a long time from now, many activities are currently underway and many more must be completed. One of those tasks is, of course, raising funds. We invite you to join our growing list of volunteers, donors and sponsors.

This newsletter is designed to keep you informed about our plans and developments along the way. I welcome your comments and will gladly talk with you about ways you can become involved and lend your support to this singular opportunity.
