****SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION SPECIAL PROJECT
2009-2011
“GOOD SOIL”
Donors: June Ashworth, Elene Combs, Kay Fisher, Mary Lou Goodman, Carolyn Patterson, Betsy Steele
With SAR Director Carolyn Patterson choosing the theme “Color Our World – Pass on Our Gardening Heritage”, she planned that the emphasis be on education. There is much diversity in the five states of this region and it is important to choose a Project that will enable clubs in each of the states to participate, regardless of club size.
However, all members use soil and realize the necessity of having good soil in which to grow their plants. Soil amendments can be a major expense in any gardening project. Improper use of the soil can also destroy its fertility.
During the second year of the term, a $50 Award will be given to one club in each state that has done the most to promote and implement this project. A $100 Award will also be given to one state that provides evidence of the best promotion and implementation of this project among its members, schools, and communities. A regular Book of Evidence is necessary for these awards. Follow the rules for the SAR region awards in your directory. State SAR Good Soil Special Project Chairman should send the Books of Evidence to the Regional Chairman by December 31, 2010.
