PRESSBOOK AWARDS

 

1. YEARBOOK AWARD: CLUBS OF UP TO/INCLUDING 24 MEMBERS

Application necessary. A $10 cash award to the first place winner.

 

K2. YEARBOOK AWARD: CLUBS OF 25 OR MORE MEMBERS

Application necessary. A $10 cash award to the first place winner.

 

K3. OTHER YEARBOOK CONSIDERED MERITORIOUS

Application necessary. A $10 cash award to the first place winner.

 

Scoring of yearbooks will comply with point system established by National Council Awards Committee. Winning yearbooks in each of 3 divisions will be submitted to National Council for a National Award by the State Awards Chairman, if merited.

      Goals for ideal club program: Study and activity in some of National Garden Club’s objectives such as: birds, Blue Star Memorials, civic development, conservation, flower shows, garden therapy, High School/Junior/Intermediate Gardening, horticulture, landscape design, litter control, roadside development, world gardening, etc.

14. PUBLICITY PRESSBOOK AWARDS

Donor: WVGCI

A $10 cash award to the first place winner in each of three classifications as follows:

A. Small Club - up to 25 members

B. Medium Club - between 26-50 members

C. Large Club - over 50 members

The Publicity Pressbooks Awards, sponsored by NGC require no application forms.

Eligibility: All garden clubs, districts, councils and garden centers belonging to NGC may submit a press book. Garden club entries are divided into three (3) categories based upon club membership: small: up to 25 members; medium: 26-50 members; large: over 50 members.

Awards: Winners may be named: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention in each category in NGC's 8 regions. They will be presented a National Council Certificate of Commendation at Regional Conference.

State Deadline: January 25 of each year. Send your entry to State Publicity Chairman. (Address in WVGCI Directory). Notify state Awards Chairman of your intent to apply for Pressbook Award.

State Judging: First Place winners in each category will be sent to the Regional Publicity Chairman for competition among the 1st place winners from each of the states in the region.

Format: Entries must be submitted in a folder with holes to firmly hold the pages; a theme-style binder, amphile or oxford brief folder. No heavy scrapbooks, oversized portfolios or loose clippings will be judged. Size 812 x 11" or 9 x 12". The cover  must have a label affixed stating the category.

Garden Clubs: Note category (Small, Medium or Large), name of club, city, state, region and name and address of person submitting Pressbook.

District: State name, number and state.

Councils and Garden Centers: State name, location and state.

Contents:

1. Materials must consist of only actual newspaper, magazine, newsletter or any printed publication “clipping” with the name and date of publication over each article. No decorative embellishments will affect judging. Affix contents in chronological order beginning January 1 and ending December 31. Pages must be numbered and an index is required.

2. Each published item must contain name of the club, district, council or garden center and/or individual(s) identified as a garden club member and/or member of the district, council or garden center. Underline the first use of the club’s name, district, council, garden center’s name in the story or article.

3. Pressbooks will be judged on quality, quantity, diversity of coverage and requirements set forth on attached Guideline for Evaluation of Publicity Pressbook.

4. Pressbooks will be returned if stamped, self-addressed envelope is included with entry.

5. Number of pages unlimited.
